Whether you come to Australia as a migrant or a student you will obviously want to do some exploring and travelling around Australia. The country is huge, so you cant expect to cover travelling Australia in just a couple of weeks. There are six states and two territories in Australia. In that there are six major cities. These are: Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart. Darwin is the capital city of the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is the capital city of Australia, in Canberra. Many people confuse Australia’s capital city with Sydney. However, many people don’t travel the country to see the capital cities of all states. Instead they go to towns and other areas which has made Australia such a brilliant touring destination. Many people like to go on road trips which can mean driving for up to three days straight depending on where you live and where you are going.

Australia has many places that are listed as essential to see for any tourist travelling the world. The main one in Australia is the Great Barrier Reef which is listed as one of the seven great wonders of the world. It is located on the coast of Queensland. Also close to this spectacular place is in Alice Springs where the largest rock is located called Uluru. This is in the heart of the Australian dessert and it is a very spiritual rock for the local aboriginal people. There is so many great places to visit in Australia, way too many to list out. The different states all have great and unique places to visit. I will look at all states and point out a few places to visit.

I will start with Victoria. The capital city here is Melbourne. There is much to see in the city itself but this can be done quite easily. The 12 apostles located on the great ocean road is one of Victoria’s great historical attractions. The apostles are literally standing in the ocean individually, which was caused by erosion so many years ago. Some of the apostles are collapsing and it is evident when you look at a few of these . The great ocean road in itself is a site to see. The beautiful scenery along the curvy road is definitely worth the ride. You can take the road to torque which is known to have big waves where many people surf. This is a short distance from Geelong which is another big city in Victoria. There are many forests or National Parks in Victoria and many people come here for long walks, fresh air and the beautiful scenery.
新南威尔士州也有很多景点，Broken Hill这座以金矿而闻名于世的山脉坐落在新州的西部，在那里，你将看到最纯正的澳洲小镇。当然，提起新州，我们一定不能忘记悉尼，海港大桥和悉尼歌剧院几近成为澳洲的象征，邦迪海滩也是声名远播。驱车2小时，我们到了新州的另一个风景点The Blue Mountains，春天的Blue Mountains,神奇的山脉，原始的森林，美丽的瀑布和壮美的悬崖都是最值得你欣赏的景色。
New South Wales has many good destinations. Broken hill is located in the west of NSW and is known for the mining of many minerals. It is a very interesting place to see for tourists because you can see many crystals and minerals plus also a classical Australian country town. Of course Sydney is a must see. The harbour bridge and the opera house are one of Australias most iconic structures. Bondi beach is probably Australias most popular beach, located in Sydney. The Blue Mountains, which is located about 2 hours from Sydney is another spectacular place to visit, especially in the spring. Here you can gaze out to the magnificent mountains, rainforests, waterfalls and spectacular cliffs. The snowy mountains are also a very popular destination for tourists.
昆士兰州，被誉为阳光大陆。大堡礁当然是昆士兰最有名的景色。离大堡礁不远，就是昆士兰的首府布里斯班，但是昆士兰最文明的城市，是黄金海岸，各色的主题公园，美女如云的海滩，吸引了成千上万的旅游者前来拜访。
In the sunshine state, or Queensland as it is known, there is plenty to do. The great barrier reef is the most known. Attraction of Queensland. Cairns is another great place to visit, which is in the northern part of Queensland, close to the great barrier reef. Brisbane is of course the capital, but not as popular for tourists as the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast has all the main theme parks in Australia including Warner Brothers Movie World. As well as having theme parks there is also surfers paradise which hosts a great beach.

Travelling to the Northern Territory can be a real experience, if you do so by car. You will have to pass the Great Desert which is a wonderful stretch of outback Australia. The main attraction is in the middle of Australia. Ayers Rock, or Uluru as called by the indigenous people of Australia, is like one of the great wonders of the world. It is the largest rock to stand alone on a vast plain field. The rock is very popular amongst tourists and anyone is allowed to climb the rock, although the indigenous people rather you wouldn’t as it is sacred to them. A couple of hours from Alice Springs is Kings Canyon. Here you can actually walk inside or on the side top of the canyon. While you are in NT you can travel to the capital, Darwin. This is a tropical place with high humidity and often cyclones can occur. It isn’t Australias best looking city but it has a different feel to it. If you want to see another side of Australian cities besides Melbourne or Sydney then you should visit Darwin.

Western Australia is the largest state in Australia although most of the state is bushland or outback. The capital city of WA is perth, which is next to the Indian ocean. Out of roughly 2 million people who live in WA (which is about 5 times the size of Texas), nearly 80 percent live in Perth. WA land area is 2,500,000 square kilometres are. That is roughly 1.25 square kilometres per person. This being said, it makes sense that there is plenty to see in this huge state. The Kimberly is located in the north of WA and hosts a magnificent outback, with climatic weather conditions. Broome is in the Kimberly and is another city what seeing. Kalgoorlie is also another great place to see, with much to do.

Tasmania is the smallest state in Australia, in fact it is actually its own island, located just under Victoria. It holds just over 400,000 people. Hobart is the capital. It is a more of a colder state than the others, and also has many lush forests and camping areas. The best way to get to Tasmania is buy ship. You can take a ride on a cruise ship from Melbourne to Tasmania at a similar price to flying although you get a much better experience on the ship.

Most of South Australia is in the outback and very dry. As like all Australian cities, South Australia’s capital city is located on the coastline. Adelaide, the capital, is often referred to as the “city of churches”. Adelaide may not be as active as Melbourne or Sydney but that’s not to say that it is boring in any way. Away from the capital, you will move into the top end of SA where you should visit a place called Coober Pedy. This is where most of the worlds supply of opals come from. This is a excellent place for tourists to visit as you can go into the mines and see how they dig for opals. You can also visit underground houses, which people live in due to the extremely hot weather. Apart from this there is plenty of bush walking and scenery to appreciate in SA.

Australia has so many places to see, so I have only listed a few. If you are a newly arrived migrant or student, you would probably not have the time or money to start travelling a lot. But when you do settle in, make sure you take the opportunity to discover this great land.
